Weld Camp Update

Weld Valley Update 29/06/2006

Gday to all, quick weld news update.....

Camp Weld celebrated its 1st anniversary on Sunday 24th September(!!!). Cheers to all those who helped out, played or attended over the weekend, and to all those multitudes who've helped out with the campaign and supported camp, we love you.

Two weeks back fundraisers were held in Melbourne, Brissy and Sydney. Sounds like all three gigs were rockin, huge thanks top those who put on these shows and are spreading the word.......

Forestry Tas is going backdoor...........The release of the Forestry three year plan has confirmed that a second road into the north weld is in the pipeline, one which would circumvent Camp Weld. It's to be funded by tax payers money from the "so called" Community Forest Agreement , but it sounds pretty pie in the sky. Its in the vicinityof sensitive karst cave areas and work can only happen in the wet winter time as the access road is part of an eagle reserve which prohibits work during summer. it's confirmed what the back ground thoughts have always been though. one to keep an eye on.

Also planned is logging of two old growth coupes adjacent to the world heritage area in the south weld, in the coming summer, and a few new coupes in the barnback catchment above camp.

Also Coupe AR34C in the Arve valley, containing giant trees and leatherwood tracts is currently being trashed, with our attempts to blockade with a giant bee thwarted by security.Local beekeepers also not happy with forestry about this.

Allana Beltram has recently completed a beautiful 20 min doco that documents the current forest situation in tassie, and documents activism over the last year. It's just been shown in Sydney, and at TINA in newie. To get a copy contact the HVEC or intergalacticallana@hotmail.com.

Cycle For Old Growth Six, taking in tassie's north east and southern forests, including blue tier, ben lomond, styx, weld and upper florentine, is happening in november, for details contact Holly Kirby, 0437001589 or cogf06@yahoo.com.au.

Fletchers Eddy

Fletchers Eddy on the Weld River, a beautiful
place to swim (weather permitting), go fishing

and spot a platypus if you're lucky.

Alright I was trying to upload a few photos to show everyone, but ive been trying for a couple of hours now with no success, but enjoy this one anyway.

Hopefully soon the photos of our first birthday will be on here. It was a beautiful rainy day, but ofcourse everyone just put on their raincoats and partied away regardless. Thanks to all the bands and to everyone who came out to celebrate the occassion.

Hope to see you all soon
